Composting in a Small Space

While scanning the news today, I found an interesting article from Redlands Daily Facts that talks about composting in small spaces.  Robert H. Schuler, a Master Gardener, has a column about gardening and the question of the day was:

I want to start a compost pile using my kitchen waste. I have some flower beds and a small vegetable garden, but not much room for a compost bin. Do you have any suggestions?

The article mostly talks about digging out a space to place kitchen scraps.  He talks about how above ground compost bins are generally more work and a require a fermentation process to fully decompose the compost.  I’d personally recommend checking out a compost tumbler, which greatly simplifies the composting process and doesn’t take up much room.
